Kotobian Tadau Kaamatan!
And that means, Happy Harvest Festival!
May is an extra exciting month for the Kadazandusuns in Sabah because it is a month of thanksgiving to Kinoingan (God). Kaamatan is an annual event in the cultural life of Kadazandusuns. The word Kaamatan comes from the root word tomot, a Kadazandusun term for harvest (in this context, harvesting paddy).
Kaamatan is celebrated within the whole month of May in various villages and districts, and the peak celebration and ARAMAITI (merry-making and having fun!) is on 30-31 May each year. *grin* It is held at the KDCA (Kadazandusun Cultural Association) Hall in Penampang.
Exhibitions, traditional sports, various traditional dances, music and many more are showcased each year. The main highlight is the Unduk Ngadau (Harvest Festival Queen). The Unduk Ngadau symbolises Huminodun, the sacrificed daughter of Kinoingan.

We’ve Been Friends…
..for 21 years!!
Wowww… I am sometimes amazed at the years we’ve been friends! I’m talking about Carol, Joanna, Ann, Trecey, Lynda Karen, Freda, Grace, Calida and a few other good friends. We went to St. Francis Convent Secondary School (most of them were friends since primary school! I was from another primary school lah, far away from KK. *grin*)
Anyway, even after Form 5, we made an effort to keep in touch. Well, sometimes we lost touch a bit, but somehow managed to keep in touch again. *grin*
So, most of us have settled down in KK now. We meet up for lunch or dinner from time to time, especially during birthdays or other celebrations. And just a few hours ago, Carol, Trecey, Ann and I celebrated Joanna’s birthday. We were at the Beijing’s Restaurant at Bukit Padang, enjoying steamboat and BBQ dinner.

Oh My Little Girl!
My little girl is really growing fast! *grin*
Here she is, as one of the flowergirls during my first cousin’s wedding today.
Only during weddings AND when she’s a flowergirl I can dress her up like this!! LOL Even during her birthday she’d negotiate with me to wear a girly pair of jeans and top! *grin*
Beauty and All…
When I was pregnant with Shania (that was in 2001), I loved going to Kaamatan or Harvest Festivals especially to see the beauty contests! *grin* I also loved to read fashion magazines and look at beautiful models! Not forgetting baby magazines with all the chubby and cute little faces! *grin* But when I was pregnant with Ted, I did not bother much with all these, except, the baby magazines.. LOL So, is it true that if one is pregnant with a baby girl, the Mum tends to be more ‘girly’ in terms of interests, etc? And oh, when I was pregnant with Shania, I just had to wear lippies everywhere I went! LOL As with Ted, a lip balm would do!
Anyway, for young ladies out there, check out this site, Look of the Year, to get the chance to be the next model working in Paris, New York or Milan! *wink* Who knows!

And Our Favourite Archaeologist Is…
…Indy!!!! *grin*
Hubby and I watched Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull today. It was full of adventures (as Indiana Jones’ movies always are!), funny, a little bit scary at times, some surprises here and there and most importantly, it has a happy ending! *wink* I love it!
I must say Harrison Ford still got the ‘ummphh’ lah! LOL Even at his age now… *wink*
Hubby prefers IJ and the Last Crusade though.. It’s the best, according to him. I can’t remember the whole story.. May be I should go read about it and refresh my memory. *grin*
